A 57-year-old man was killed in Brooklyn on Monday evening after his bag reportedly became trapped in closing subway doors, dragging him beneath the train.

After a 911 call, Yaw Boahene was found “unconscious and unresponsive” on the tracks of a northbound A train at the Utica Avenue station in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood shortly after 6 p.m., according to the New York Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced Boahene dead at the scene. An investigation has been launched into the cause of his death.

Boahene, of Brooklyn, was exiting a train at around 6 p.m. when his shopping bag got stuck in the doors, The New York Times reported.

Incidents involving commuters being caught and dragged by subway trains are exceedingly rare, but they do happen.
